One of the twenty 4x4 murals by Flyn Costello
Bangor Beautiful and Waterfront Concerts are pleased to present the Waterfront Concerts Fence Murals, a 760 foot series of murals along Main Street. We collaborated with Jared Goulette aka The Color Wizard and 20 local artists to fill the long wooden fence in front of the Maine Savings Amphitheater with murals on the theme of ‘Maine.’
The largest mural is painted by Jared Goulette on the first 75 foot section directly in front of the stage. It was commissioned by Waterfront Concerts to target the thousands of concert goers who visit Main Street by depicting the words “We hope you have a Wicked Good Time” in a vintage postcard style. The background and inside of the letters are filled with images of central Maine landscapes, such as lakes and mountains. The mural was painted over two days in June 2025.
The remaining 685 feet of fence were stained in a repeating, cohesive, color block pattern with a 4 foot by 4 foot mural every 20 feet. Each mural was being painted by a different local artist, bringing an incredible diversity of artists and visions on the subject of Maine. Each artist was being provided with a primed 4’x4’ marine plywood canvas, primary color exterior paint, and a $450 stipend. The murals were be sealed and installed in June 2025. This project has potential to add more artist works as time goes on, so stay tuned!
We will be posting more information about the artists and their pieces soon.
Accompanying the murals, in keeping with Bangor Beautiful’s efforts to combine art and nature, a number of short, native ground cover plants such as ferns and wildflowers will be planted at the base of the fence to help create additional beauty and pollinator habitat.
We hope this project helps to beautify our Main Street through the collaborative eff orts of local artists and community volunteers.
Our friends at Waterfront Concerts are the lead sponsor on this project!
We are looking for lighting and habitat sponsors so that we can light the murals and surround them with native plants!
Benefits: Thanked on the signage, website, and social media.
