Community Mural

About the Project

We are collaborating with Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce to install a large Bangor community themed mural in Downtown Bangor.

Adams' design will incorporate artwork created by Bangor area artists on the theme of Bangor and its community. She has developed a vibrant, graphic pattern-based visual language filled with references to the natural world and motherhood that possess an heirloom quality.

The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2026.

Why Community?

Community gives people a sense of belonging and reminds us that we’re part of something larger than ourselves. When neighbors know one another they build trust and the resilience to grow together. We hope this mural, rooted in the spirit of Bangor can turn a blank brick wall into a mirror, reflecting shared identity, sparking connection, and adding beauty to our everyday lives.

Local BANGOR ARTISTS!

This spring, we called for local artists to contribute to the final mural design.

Rachel Gloria Adams selected 6 Bangor-themed patterns to integrated into the final design shown below.

Artists: Juliana Cantreli, Nina Earley, Annette Dodd, Karen Nichols, Carile Deshane

Each artist created a pattern inspired by Bangor. Karen Nichols celebrates the Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race, while Carlie Deshane highlights downtown’s historic architecture and Nina Earley depicts the Penobscot River. Julianna Venturelli references Stephen King through his home and characters from books such as It. Annette connects Bangor’s lumber history with its present-day commitment to planting trees and beautifying the city.

The three-story Community mural will incorporate the local Bangor-inspired patterns as well as Rachel Gloria Adams designs and artists style.

The Mural Location

The mural will be located on the Hammond, a historic building at 2 Hammond Street in Downtown Bangor. This highly visible building can be seen from the intersection of Main, Central, and Hammond Streets in the very center of downtown.
