The committee is responsible for site selection and coordination of murals as well as other arts in open and public spaces throughout Bangor.
We are collaborating with Bangor Farmers Market to install a mural on a storage container the market will use to store supplies for the market. The large box will sit on site at the market outside the Bangor Public Library all season long, and so we hope to turn it from a blank box into a piece of public art.
We are collaborating with Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce to install a large Bangor community themed mural in Downtown Bangor. Adams' design will incorporate artwork created by Bangor area artists on the theme of Bangor and its community. She has developed a vibrant, graphic pattern-based visual language filled with references to the natural world and motherhood that possess an heirloom quality. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2026.
The third in our series of School Murals that aim to bring public art and education about the importance of nature and pollinators to local schools. Local artist Peter Walls will collaborate with teachers and students to paint a public facing mural on their school.
We collaborated with Maine Audubon to transform a cement retaining wall on Broadway in Bangor through 5 murals of birds and their habitat by Alison Ross of Eastport, additional smaller murals by art students from Bangor and Brewer High Schools, and the planting of a large native plant garden.

We partnered with Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness to create Bangor's 1st large street mural to calm traffic and beautify a busy section of road in Downtown Bangor.
We held our very first Mural Fun Run on May 11, 2024. Over 40 runners and walkers visited 9 of the beautiful murals in Bangor stopping in at each to hear about its history and meaning of each mural, in some cases meeting the artist as they touched up their creations, and to receive a totally rad button that includes an image of the mural! The route was ~ two miles, and all paces and faces were welcome.

The Public Art Committee meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 4:30 - 5:30 pm in Downtown Bangor.
