Call for local artists to create Bangor themed repetitive patterns designs. Selected patterns will be incorporated into a mural by Maine artist Rachel Gloria Adams. This collaborative community mural will be installed in Downtown Bangor, during summer 2026. Learn more about it here.
Above are a few examples of simple repetitive pattern designs in the theme of Maine. This call is for similar pattern designs in the theme of Bangor. Bangor Beautiful will select at least ten designs for the artist to choose from.
Rachel G. Adams will be able to change the color and scale of the pattern to create a cohesive mural design. She will hand paint the designs on a wall at 2 Hammond Street.
All designs should be submitted using this form and are due by May 24th. The repetitive pattern designs must be in black and white (no grey scale). Pattern designs must be original artworks without the use of AI. All designs must be accompanied by a short written statement as to why the pattern represents Bangor. Chosen artists will be listed as collaborators with their designs and statements on Bangor Beautiful’s website.
Rachel Gloria Adams is a multidisciplinary artist living in Portland, ME. Adams has developed a vibrant, graphic pattern-based visual language filled with references to the natural world and motherhood that possess an heirloom quality. Her work takes form by way of quilting, painting, design and murals.
